Start with the student's speech target and interests. Pair the target sound with its letter, clap syllables, and read a short text together. Then write down the words the student says and read them back. In EASI, MySLP prepares structured literacy supports around the target and interests, and you check every activity for fit.
Literacy is communication. When you tie literacy activities to your student's speech target and interests, you can practice sounds, letters and reading together. Our guide, Literacy as Communication: A Guide for SLPs, explains why sound work and print work help each other. MySLP in EASI prepares structured literacy supports you can adapt.
Step 1: Tell MySLP the target and the interests
In the student's profile, tell MySLP your student's speech target and interests, like the K sound at the start of words, as in kangaroo. For example:
"Plan structured literacy supports for this student. Speech target: K at the start of words. Interests: [your student's interests]. Include a sound and letter activity, a syllable activity, and a short reading passage."
Step 2: Use the supports you adapt
MySLP prepares structured literacy supports built around that target, such as:
- Letter: pair the sound with its letter.
- Syllables: clap syllables.
- Shared reading: read a short text together.
Step 3: Write it down, read it back
Write down the words your student says and read them back. Seeing their own words in print links talking and reading.
Who checks the activities?
You do. Check every activity for fit, and change anything that does not suit your student. MySLP drafts and prepares. The SLP reviews every result and stays in charge.
EASI is HIPAA and FERPA compliant, with a BAA and insurance.
