EASI keeps student data private and in the hands of your district. EASI is HIPAA and FERPA compliant, with a BAA and insurance, and our National Data Privacy Agreement is already signed and ready to join for school districts in 15 states.
We are speech language pathologists and educators ourselves, so we know what is at stake when a family trusts a school with a child's voice, words and story. This page explains, in plain language, how EASI protects that information and how your district can join our signed privacy agreement.
How does EASI protect student data?
Your district owns its student data. We use it only to provide the services your district asked for.
Student data is never sold, rented, leased or traded, and it is never used for targeted advertising or marketing.
EASI is HIPAA and FERPA compliant, with a BAA and insurance. Under FERPA, iTherapy acts as a school official with a legitimate educational interest.
Saved records are encrypted at rest and hosted on Amazon Web Services, and every connection uses HTTPS.
Access is limited. Staff and subcontractors see student data only when their role requires it. Access to student data is logged, and those audit logs are kept for 7 years. EASI passwords must be at least 15 characters.
EASI's AI runs entirely inside Amazon Web Services. Amazon Transcribe turns recordings into text, and Claude, running inside Amazon Bedrock, drafts the reports you request. Because the AI runs on Amazon's own servers, student data is never sent to Anthropic, OpenAI or any other AI company, and it is never used to train AI models.
For student data, Amazon Web Services is our only subprocessor. All of it is covered by our AWS Business Associate Agreement and stays in U.S. AWS regions. Northern Speech Services handles purchases, and Google and Apple handle sign in, but none of them receive student data.
The clinician stays in charge: EASI drafts, and your SLP reviews, edits and signs every word. Language samples are scored only after the clinician reviews and attests the transcript.
When your district asks, student data is returned or deleted. When a contract ends, student data is deleted within 30 days.
For the technical details, see our HIPAA and FERPA privacy and security page.
Is EASI's student data privacy agreement signed?
Yes. EASI's National Data Privacy Agreement (NDPA) is signed and ready to join for districts in 15 states: Massachusetts, Maine, Illinois, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
Matthew Guggemos, our CTO, signed the agreement on November 19, 2025, through TEC, the Education Cooperative, and the Student Data Privacy Consortium. Each state adds its own terms, so your district gets the protections written for your state's student privacy laws.
iTherapy has also signed the General Offer of Privacy Terms. That means any district in these 15 states can accept the same privacy terms by signing a one page join form, alongside your EASI service agreement, with no new negotiation. The offer is open through late 2028.
How does my district join?
Your district joins by signing a one page join form, the General Offer of Privacy Terms, alongside your EASI service agreement.
Step 1: Get the join form. Districts that use the SDPC Resource Registry can find EASI there and sign the join form online. Or email admin@itherapyllc.com, and we will send your privacy lead the signed agreement and the one page join form.
Step 2: Sign and return it. Your district's designated representative signs the join form and emails it to matthew@itherapyllc.com, with a copy to admin@itherapyllc.com. If you sign in the Resource Registry, the form reaches us automatically. The privacy terms take effect as soon as iTherapy receives your signed form. New York districts also include links to their data security and privacy policy and their Parents Bill of Rights, which the registry adds for you.
Step 3: Put your EASI service agreement in place. The join form covers privacy only, so your district also needs a service agreement with us, such as a purchase order or our terms of use. Groups and districts with 10 or more users get quotes through Northern Speech Services. Learn more about EASI for school districts.
Your privacy coverage runs through late 2028. In Illinois and Washington, it lasts as long as your district uses EASI.
A full step by step guide to joining is coming soon to our Resources page.
What if my district is not in one of the 15 states?
We are glad to work with you. Email admin@itherapyllc.com and we will help your district put a student data privacy agreement in place.
Who can I talk to about privacy?
Our Privacy Officer is happy to answer questions from families, clinicians, privacy officers and procurement teams. Email admin@itherapyllc.com.
iTherapy, LLC, 4439 Ryer Road East, Walnut Grove, CA 95690
Is the EASI agreement a state approval?
No. It is a signed privacy agreement between iTherapy and school districts, made through the Student Data Privacy Consortium. It is not a state approval, certification or endorsement.
Does signing the join form mean we have purchased EASI?
No. The join form covers privacy only. Your district still needs an EASI service agreement, such as a purchase order or our terms of use. Groups and districts get quotes and purchase through Northern Speech Services.
Is student data ever sold?
No. Student data is never sold, rented, leased or traded, and it is never used for targeted advertising.
Does EASI collect voiceprints or other biometric data?
No. EASI does not create or keep voiceprints, voice IDs, facial recognition or any other biometric data. Transcription labels speaker 1 and speaker 2 within a single recording so a child's words can be told apart from the clinician's, but nothing about anyone's voice is saved or matched across recordings. Camera backgrounds run entirely on your device, and no video or face data is recorded or uploaded.
A privacy checklist for your district
Before any AI tool touches student data, we think every district should ask 10 questions. Download our free privacy checklist, attached to this page, to see the questions and how EASI answers each one.
