If you are comparing EASI and SALT, you probably have a busy caseload and not much time to learn a new tool. Here is the plain answer: these are two different kinds of software, and each one is a good fit for a different job.
SALT is built for one job and does it in depth: language sample analysis with reference databases. EASI covers the range of work around a caseload, from caseload management, plus scheduling (in beta), to evaluation reports (in beta), IEP goal drafts, therapy plans, AAC supports and progress reports. Language samples are one part of that. Every SALT detail here comes from SALT Software's own website, checked on October 20, 2026.
What EASI covers
EASI, from iTherapy, LLC, brings the everyday work of an SLP caseload into one web based workspace. You stay in charge of every clinical decision, and you review and approve what EASI drafts.
| Feature | What it does |
|---|---|
| Caseload management, plus scheduling (in beta) | Keep your caseload in one place. Scheduling is in beta. |
| Evaluation reports (in beta) | The report generator fills your uploaded clinic or district template with a draft evaluation report that you edit, approve and sign. It is in beta. |
| Measurable SMART IEP goals | EASI drafts measurable SMART IEP goals from the full evaluation for you to review, edit and approve. |
| SOAP and therapy notes | Keep SOAP notes and therapy notes with the rest of the case. |
| Progress reports | Create progress reports for the date range you choose. |
| MySLP (included with EASI) | Lesson and session plans, data sheets, printable talking core boards, the SETT framework for AAC, home programs and therapy images. |
| Therapy materials and therapy camera | Therapy materials, plus a therapy camera with pictures and filters that help prompt language for a language sample. |
| Lightspeed Literacy | Orton Gillingham informed literacy support. |
| Talking core boards | Talking core boards in English and Spanish. |
| Bilingual cases | Client profiles record language exposure, so English scores can be interpreted in light of the other languages a child uses. MySLP can transcribe Spanish and translate a report into Spanish for families. |
| Language sample analysis | Samples are scored only after you review and attest each transcript line. |
What SALT is built for
SALT (Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts) is dedicated language sample analysis software. Many SLPs know it for its transcription conventions, standard reports and built in reference databases for comparing a speaker with typical peers. Neither one is simply "better." SALT goes deep on the sample, and EASI connects it to the work around it.
The short answer
Choose SALT if your main need is comparing a language sample against reference databases of typical speakers, using SALT's coding conventions and reports.
Choose EASI if you want one place for reports, IEP goal drafts, therapy plans, materials, AAC supports and progress reports, with every transcript line reviewed and attested by you before a sample is scored.
Use both if you rely on SALT's databases and also want help with the reports, goals, plans and materials around them.

What SALT does well
SALT has a well established process that many SLPs already know. You choose a sample type that matches one of SALT's databases, review the sampling protocol, collect and record the sample, transcribe it word for word in SALT's editor, then compare the results with matched speakers and run the Performance Report.
SALT's databases match speakers on age, grade, gender, sampling context and transcript length. SALT reports more than 50 measures of syntax, morphology, semantics, discourse and verbal facility, including MLU, number of different words and the Subordination Index. The Performance Report gives you narrative text you can copy into your own reports.
SALT also offers elicitation kits and protocols (sold separately), free online training and a fee based transcription service. SALT suggests goals from the sample; EASI drafts SMART IEP goals from the full evaluation for your review. That depth is SALT's strength. If database comparison is central to your evaluations, SALT is built for it.
How EASI handles a language sample
When a language sample is part of the work, EASI follows one rule: nothing is scored from a transcript you have not reviewed.
Record in EASI, upload audio, or bring in a transcript. The therapy camera's pictures and filters can help prompt language. Automatic transcription is a draft, not clinical evidence. You correct words, speaker labels, morphemes and IPA details, then attest each line. Only then does EASI calculate the measures your sample supports, such as MLU, IPSyn, number of different words and PCC.
You stay in charge. EASI doesn't decide diagnosis or eligibility. You interpret the results, review every draft and sign the final document.
Which one fits your week?
SALT may be the better fit when you need to compare a sample against SALT's reference databases, when you work with bilingual Spanish and English or monolingual Spanish speakers and want SALT's Spanish language databases, when SALT's conventions and reports already work well for you, or when you prefer desktop software with a one time license.
EASI may be the better fit when your week covers evaluations, IEP goals, therapy sessions, notes and progress reports, and you want them in one place. It also suits you if you support AAC users with core boards and the SETT framework, or want help with bilingual cases and Spanish reports for families.
Some SLPs may want both: SALT for reference database comparison, and EASI for the reports, goals, plans, materials and AAC supports around the rest of the caseload.
What each one costs
A SALT 24 clinical license is $249 for one copy, for a single user on one computer at a time, with no annual licensing or support fees. SALT also lists student ($79), research ($659) and instructional site ($869) licenses, plus district site licenses by quote. SALT notes that its prices are subject to change.
EASI is $39 a month with MySLP and 4 report tokens each month, or $199 a year with MySLP and 50 report tokens. One report token is used per report, and extra token packs are available. Northern Speech Services is EASI's distributor, and both individual and group plans are purchased there. Please confirm current pricing on the listing before you order.
